Now, we haven’t tested Explorer 2020, including the new ST Explorer and Hybrid Explorer plug-in, but will update this page when we do. In the meantime, we’ve included below everything we know about the new Explorer, which is actually pretty much.

What’s new for the 2020 years?

Explorer was completely redesigned for the year 2020. It remains a three-line crossover, but now shares a rear-wheel drive platform with the Ford Mustang (versus Ford Taurus and other front-drive platforms). It is also larger and offers a variety of distinctive and powerful machines. Feature content, especially safety technologies, and interiors have been generally improved.

How big is the new Explorer?

Explorer 2020 is larger than its predecessor and most of its competitors. With a length of 198.8 inches, only the larger Chevy Traverse is larger. Importantly, however, its axis distance (119.1 inches) is also quite long, which usually pays dividends in terms of interior space and handling.

Inside, the new Explorer has a second and third line of motion space more than all three competitor lines except Traverse (this is a common refrain in terms of size). The third line headroom is tied to the Honda Pilot for the best in class. Now, what does this mean in terms of really adjusting the person on board? Well, full-sized adults should be able to adjust quite comfortably across all three lines, as well as adolescents who are growing up.

There will also be more room for everybody’s stuff, especially behind the third row, where there is the best cargo space in its class of 21 cubic feet. The maximum cargo space difference (all lines lowered) between competitors seems to be negligible, but an extra cube behind the road could mean the difference between carrying all your luggages, buying a roof box or making someone sit with a bag Wool on their lap for three hours.

What kind of interior technology and car Explorer?

Explorer 2020 has a more modern cab, focusing on technology than ever before. It is evident in the trim level available with the vertically-oriented 10.1 inch vertical touch screen that grows blatantly. We have not tested Explorer 2020, and will update this review once we have further impression of the new cabin.

What is performance Explorer and fuel saving?

Unique to this segment, Ford Explorer 2020 offers a selection of four powertrains, including those in the performance-oriented ST Explorer and the Hybrid Explorer plug-in.

The standard Explorer engine is a 2.3-liter four-cylinder turbocharged that generates 300 horsepower and torque of 310 pound-feet. That’s more than the base engine of every competitor (and usually just). The rear-wheel drive is a standard feature on this machine, but the drive of all wheels is an option. Like every Explorer, the 10-speed automatic transmission is standard.

The engine upgrades are the V6 3.0-liter turbocharged which delivers 365 hp and 380 lb-ft torque to the standard all wheel drive system. Only the Dodge Durango powered V8 can match this type of weapon.

The ST Explorer will improve its quality with an upgraded V6 3.0 liter of Turbo for 400 hp and 415 lb-ft torque. Again, the all-wheel drive is standard, but the rear bias for better handling in dry conditions.

At the other end of the spectrum is the plug-in 2020 Hybrid Explorer which attach a naturally aspirated V6 3.3 liters to an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack under the passenger’s side cabin. The Total output is 318 hp, and can reach 5,300 pounds. That’s only 300 less than the maximum non-hybrid Explorer.

The estimated fuel economy is not available at the time of this writing.
