Jul 11, 2005 Greenfire put a S/C on his AWD Matrix, and didn't have any tranny related problems from the exra HP, but that was what, maybe 170, not close to your 250 HP goal.I assume you could bolt a 2ZZ onto the AWD tranny, and maybe the tranny could handle the power, although you might lose some power due to the required exhaust rerouting to get arround the AWD stuff. May 11, 2014 EDIT June 1, 2013 According to TN forum moderator hardtope72, this procedure and filter kit are identical for all 2003-2008 Corolla, Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe with a 1ZZFE front wheel drive automatic transmissions A245E or A246E. Note that my local Toyota service department advised me that they only drain and fill. All-wheel drive is optional on the Matrix S. Click here to see a comparison with the 2008 model. The Matrix shares roots with the Toyota Corolla and Scion xB, and Pontiac markets a related hatchback in the Vibe. I drove a front-wheel-drive Matrix S with a manual transmission.
The 2004 Toyota Matrix has 3 problems reported for transmission failure. Average repair cost is $2,290 at 107,100 miles. CarComplaints.com: Car complaints, car problems and defect information.

CarComplaints.com Notes: The Toyota Matrix is the mechanical twin of the Pontiac Vibe.
Both models were a joint GM-Toyota venture, manufactured together at a NUMMI production facility in Fremont, CA. Only the heating & A/C systems are different.
